  • 1 lb fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup (or homemade béchamel)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • ¼ cup butter, melted
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Blanch asparagus in boiling water for 2–3 minutes, then drain.
  • In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer asparagus in the dish, pour the sauce over it, and sprinkle cheddar and Parmesan cheese.
  • In another bowl, mix breadcrumbs and melted butter, then sprinkle over the casserole.
  • Bake for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  • Let rest for 5 minutes, then serve warm.
