  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips, if desired.
  • Scoop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing cookies 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  • Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For softer cookies, slightly underbake them and let them cool on the tray.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon for a warm flavor twist.
  • These cookies are best stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
